2008 is here and so are the previews. We've mashed up lines to look out for with lines you already know and love. There's even some high fashion lookbooks for the individuals that pronounce it (gyew•chee), sips with the pinky out, and spills it.

Here is the Top Ten Lookbooks of 07 voted by Formatmag.com

The Couture Group concurs...

Here is the latest greatest (some of them are Holiday '07, but we still like it)

As more lookbooks come, this will be updated. Here's a pretty dope song by Colin Munroe. It may sound familiar. Enjoy...

8 Things Every Young Man Should Own...

There is no such thing as a complete wardrobe. Style and trends are always changing. In the foundation of an ever evolving repitoire, there are some luxury (and some not so expensive) items that needs to be in the younger mans closet. Collect..

All black loafers..
The reason this shoe made the list is because its an investment. Building a wardrobe doesn't neccesarily mean going to Saks and spending all your college refund money, a months salary, and a couple borrowed bucks from a friend. Its a process. So start out with something that'll last. The versatility of the loafers (Ferragamo, Cole Haan, Prada) is what makes them important. Worn in a semi formal setting is acceptable and in a social setting its even better. They usually start from $179 so your best bet is to get an all black pair to last for some time.
Suggested Buy: Gucci has some nice ones for around $230 but the favorite here is PF Flyers for $70

A watch perhaps..

Guadiness is your enemy. A watch almost symbolizes a social standing, not always because of the price. Watches range from sentimental value (i.e. generation hand downs) to hundreds of thousands. In a watch one should look for durability and class. Today more watches are available with the luxurious features for a fraction of the price. Some of the same features found in a Rolex Submariner can be found in many other companies who replicated it such as Omega, Tag Heuer, Citizens, Amitron, etc.. Along with the remarkable bezel, these timepieces feature the perpetual (No ticking) and automatic function. Even if you're not a big fan of the Rolex style its always good to look for an automatic watch because they run off of wrist motion and require no battery. On the contrary, some enjoy tasteful electronic watches and for that i would advise a Nooka watch. Nooka watches are not as elementary as G shock and come in all assortments and styles.
Suggested Buy: Nooka $150-300

A fragrance..
A study was done as to where the most prevelent thing in memory recognition was smell. Pheromones are natural chemical scents the body produces in order to attract others. Pheromones are well documented in the animal kingdom as the force that controls all social behavior, including mating. Scientists are now finding that human behavior is also heavily influenced by these invisible social magnets.Basically if you smell like Brute or Barbatcheuse cologne you may remind her of her grandfather. Something subtle yet lasting may leave her with an impression of you longer than expected and a stronger attraction then you couldve hoped for.
Suggested Buy: Aqua Dio Gio $49.50, Issey Miyake

A suit..
At least once or twice a year (maybe even more) a suit will be donned for some important reason. To not look like you pulled it fresh from your fathers prom picture, you may want to grab a suit or two for these special occasions. Pinstripe is beginning to become a favorite, because solid black is too funeral (unless it is one, God rest their souls) Make sure it fits your body proportionatley so you look as comfortable as the double windsor on your neck and the beauty on your arm.
Suggested Buy: Brooks Brothers OR Bloomingdales $2-300

Luggage..

Imagine you were Rome..with all of your gorgeous architecture and timeless history that (as the adage states) wasn't built in a day. Now imagine protecting this city with a picket fence and some barbed wire. Ransacked. Pillaged. Destroyed. Pick one. Your wardrobe is just as important. It took (or is taking) quite a while to build. Placing it in a duffel bag through airport care is your picket fence. Luggage will not only say something about who you are, it will also save you from tattered rags that used to be your favorite shirt.
Suggested Buy: Just go to http://www.tumi.com/ , www.goyard.com

A coat..
It is cold outside. Put on a coat. Put on a damn coat, as my mother used to say. It took me a while to realize the difference between a hoody, a jacket, and a coat. A jacket is spring, early autumn wear. But when its so benumbed outside that your facial muscle mobility has slowed all the way up, and your inner bones are frozen over, a hoody really doesn't seem to cut it. It being the piercing windchill. So grab a coat. 2 main ones that I look for is a pique coat or a Northface. Both will keep an internal heater in the worst weather and with a scarf, you may forget you're in an arctic style climate.
Suggested Buy: Old Navy $60, North Face $399

Gucci belt..

Gucci has beeb a staple in fashion for a long time. Needless to say everything that glitters isn't gold. Just because its a name doesn't mean it makes the list. But there is something about that green red green moniker that makes one smile. So to satisfy your label whore palette, get a reversible Gucci belt. The tri color side will make sense at a social affair because its loud enough, but in a very unnoticable way. And when you aren't wanting to quietly stand out reverse it to the solid side to be totally oblivious. But you know what it is. You know...
Suggested Buy: Gucci $270

1 pair of designer jeans..

I can name at least 10 pairs of jeans that can fit in this section respectfully. I'll just do it in the suggested buy section. But at least one pair of designer jeans is needed because when you walk away you are still being watched. A pair of Citizens of Humanity or R&Rs can give those eyes something to gaze at. I say 1 pair being modest but 3 or 4 is more like it. A few pairs of Gap and Levi Premiums and your set.
Suggested Buy: Nudies $170, Paper Denim $148

3 Types of People and Where You Fit..

There is an estimated 6, 679, 532, 264 people on planet Earth. The average person knows a mere 1500 people. And new persons seen everyday is almost double that. There is (by law) only one you. So the question is, how do you differentiate yourself from the monotonous everyday Joe Schmo that goes overlooked and unnoticed. (No offense Mr. Schmo) From years of train riding, and people watching, I realize there is 3 types of "IT" people. The categories can break into a million subsets, but that's for a later date. Here they go:

Those Who Do it
Those Who Don't Do It
And then the infamous (and a personal favorite of the Couture Group)
Those Who Overdo It.

A majority of the fashion savvy subscribers that read this fall into 1 of the 3. Let's get into it..

Those Who Don't Do It...

For the younger man, a lot goes on. From trying to find a job to trying to make her your girlfriend (but she keeps playing games) to honestly figuring out who you are..or trying to anyway. The uniform for such a chap is T-shirts and the FAVORITE jeans that are more than likely on the 3rd day of usage with no stop in sight. Now don't get it confused. Those that have established themselves with style can wear a pair of shades and a speedo and still be complimented. I don't know why either. Swagger is my vote.. But the Don't Doers never had the wherewithal to care in the first place. Anyway comfort is the main issue for the outfit impaired, so colorways that are dope for the season is less than important. Its not even a thought. Whatsoever.

Those Who Do It..

Double takes. Raised eyebrows. Inquiries about where you got those Nudies. These are the symptoms of people that Do It. The versatility of such an individual is what makes them just that. An individual. Trendsetters. The "This Aint Out Yetters".. Abreast on what's going on and comfortable in their own skin, anything worn within good taste is marveled at by onlookers. (Onlookers= women) On a stack of lie detector encased bibles, I PROMISE if one dresses a little more simple, a little more them, and a little more in season, you're age will be masked behind the cardigan and older "onlookers" will be drawn to approach.

Those Who Overdo It

Holy God. Every possible website with a forum and a C&C shirt has been saturated by their IP address. Not only must the pastel salmon hue of the SB Unkles match the intestines on the "Gutbuster" Mishka shirt (which is kinda dope) the pink Members Only jacket clicks on the neon TRYING TOO HARD sign..OR on the opposite side of the spectrum, everyone is trying to be so unique, ironically they all look the same. Mohawks , any and every vivid color they can find, coupled with a dumb accessory, like a rope chain.. Its justified because worn is a brand from Cmonwealth.com. Not in the least bit. Find yourselves Over Doists. Or be a crayon box mannequin, that changes with the trends..

So..where my friend, do you fit?

THE LINE UP FOR 2008..

connoisseur (Fr. connaisseur, from connoistre, connaƮtre meaning "to be acquainted with" or "to know sb/sth.") is a person who has a great deal of knowledge about the fine arts, or an expert judge in matters of taste.

Learn that word. Become that word. In whatever realm or world you exist in..From the skinny jean Mahirishi tee clad Top Hat donning skater to the cardigan and Keffiyah afficionado to the business minded full windsor type it is GUARANTEED that by the end of reading an article or every single article for that matter, your fashion sense (taste, touch, smell) will somehow be offended, altered, bettered, and overall complete. This is an ongoing journey for the younger man to establish himself as a figure of his own. There is PLENTY of deleterious influences that can sway the personal style of an individual full speed downhill. Amesse the Couture will help the style conciuos pump those brakes..
